The Double Edged Sword of Oxygen by Dr. Katrina Tang
No doubt, oxygen is good stuff! If deprived of oxygen, human survival is easily measured in in mere minutes. a lack of oxygen is called hypoxia. Hypoxia can cause seizures, irreversible damage to vital organs, and death. But like all things in life, appreciating the value of balance even hold true with this precious element. In addition to it's life sustaining properties, oxygen has it's own dark side. It is a deadly fuel for fire, and it is principally responsible for the corrosion of metal, and the deterioration of rubber products. This process is called oxidation, and oxygen is a good oxidizer.
Oxidation is a chemical process where the oxygen content of a compound is increased and elements are removed from an atom. In the 1960s, it was revealed that the free radicals or unstabel molecules involved with oxidation, create a vicious cycle, which disrupts the chemical bonds within the delicate human structure. These free radicals have been strongly linked to genetic damage, cancer and heart disease. Oxidation causes our cells to simply wear-out from an accumulation of damage. In today's modern world, our bodies are under an unprecedented assault by powerful oxidizers such as ozone and ultraviolet radiation. Simultaneously with this assault, we fall short of consuming adequate amounts of the various fresh fruits and vegetables tha are rich in antioxidants.
Since the 1960s medical researchers have recommended taking anti-oxidant supplements and free radical scavengers to protect our systems from aging and disease. It was believed that with regard to these supplements, that more was better. However, oxidative processes are necessary to provide the energy required fueling our bodies' metabolism, and our immune system uses oxygen free radicals to kill potentially harmful microorganisms and defective cells. Large doses of powerful anti-oxidants can slow down our metabolism and weaken our immue system. This is where one comes to appreciate the importance of a balace approach, and we recognize the value of focusing on each patient as a truly aunique individual with their own specific needs and their own predisposing set of circumstances.
The enlightened approach to medicine in the twenty-first century seeks to balance the risks and benefits of any potential offender, including the air we breathe. The air that we breathe also serves as a vehicle for the inhalation of noxious pollutants and circulating viruses. By understanding the dichotomy of oxygen an it's potential to impact our bodies' biochemistry, we can better position our selves to minimize its possible adverse cnsequences and to maximize its vital life sustaning qualities. You should be careful of suggestions that involve a simplistic approach to the issues of oxygen and your health. Ask questions and become informed. Misuse of any oxygen therapy can potentially cause more harm than good.
With treatment with Dr. Katrina Tang and the Sierra Integrative Medical Center, we will perform and assess each patient's condition in detail. We may employ the healing effects of oxygen and anti-oxidants from such means as Hyperbaric Oxygen, Oxygen Metabolic Enhancers such as Coenzyme Q-10, intravenous Vitamin C and homeopathic oxidative catalysts. Dr. Katrina Tang, one of the founders of Century Clinic and the Director of Center's Medical Research stated, "Our mission is to selectively employ all valid medical modalities available to treat our patients. Our cause and prevention focus supports our Golden Rule - We treat the cause of the disease, not just the symptoms." Thus, paving the way for a wealth of good health!
You could have Lyme Disease without knowing it!
Have you been misdiagnosed?
by Sierra Integrative Medical Clinic and dr. Katrina Tang
Are you tired of the time, with muscle and joint pain? Have your doctors been unable to pinpoint what is wrong? Or have you been disgnosed with Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, Arthritis, Chronic Fatigue, etc., but have not found effective treatment to improve your health?
You could be infected with Lyme Disease - America's #1 misdiagnosed condition.
Lyme is not spread just by ticks, but by other insectes, contaminated food, and human contact. Authorities estimate that up to 90% of the population could be carrying the Lyme spirochete, and that Lyme is a factor in over 50% of chronic illnesses.
Yet few doctors have the experience to diagnose Lyme disease - or even know know what to look for it. Katrina Tang, M.D., H.M.D., Director of Medical Research, Sierra Integrative Medical Center in Reno, Nevada, says, "[Lyme] eludes many doctors because it can mimic many other disesases. This poses a public health risk, because doctors may treat the wrong disease or not find the true cause, thereby delaying the treatment."
